According to a study out of Durham University in the UK, the way people with autism visually process body language could hinder them from gauging people's feelings. The research demonstrated that adults with autism have difficulty identifying emotions from video clips of body movements when sound was absent and faces were not shown. The videos showed gestures and movements such as waving fists, stamping feet and skipping and the participants were asked to attach an emotion - anger, disgust, sadness, fear, or happiness - to the gesture.
