School gardens are a powerful means of instilling lifelong environmental and nutritional literacy in children. The garden engages students by providing a dynamic environment in which to observe, discover, experiment, nurture, and learn. It is a living laboratory where lessons are drawn from real-life experiences rather than textbook examples, allowing students to become active participants in the learning process.

“Your son won’t sit still for circle” I was told by my son’s preschool teacher when he was four. This kind of surprised me because he would sit still at home to listen to stories.

I never really thought twice about food coloring – and if I did, I thought how wonderful it was. Isn't it great that you can make a green cake, decorate Easter eggs, customize treats for children, make playdough, etc.? It seemed as if every label I checked had some type of food coloring in it, so that meant it was safe right? Unfortunately, the answer turned out to be a resounding NO!

For many years, the use of pets in therapeutic or human assistance roles has been warmly accepted by most.  When we see a dog, helping a human make it through their day, we can’t help but marvel at the intelligence, sensitivity and selfless nature of the animal.  But animals do more than help with daily life tasks; according to the CDC they help decrease feelings of loneliness, decrease your blood pressure and cholesterol, plus they provide opportunities for socialization and exercise.

When some people hear Monosodium Glutamate, they immediately think of Chinese restaurants.  What may not be thought of or understood is why MSG can cause issues and where else it lurks.  This, as it turns out, is Jack Samuels’ passion.  His knowledge regarding MSG and how it impacts children is the focus of this article.
 

“He got his first tooth”!  My friend exclaimed.  “And, boy is he crabby”.  I could relate.  My children were also out of synch when they got their teeth – even their 6 year molars.  My pediatrician believed in the use of homeopathy for teething and recommended products that provided my sons with relief.  We were fortunate.
