Lead poisoning is considered to be the most preventable public health hazards affecting children. There has been quite a bit of attention placed on lead in toys and other children's items, but do you know how to test for lead?

In 2005, U.S. government scientists tested 60 soft vinyl lunchboxes and discovered 1 in 5 contained unsafe amounts of lead and several had obscene levels of lead with the highest levels registering at 9,600 parts per million.¹ The lead was found in the polyvinylchloride or PVC of these lunchboxes and the plastic linings contained high levels of lead².

The FDA periodically updates their Total Diet Study with information on heavy metals and pesticides found in foods.  As a parent concerned about reducing the likelihood of lead in our family’s diet, I was intrigued by the study and interested in where lead is lurking in my produce and other foods. 

What is the Total Diet Study?

Homeopathy was founded by German physician Samuel Hahnemann in the 1700s.    The word homeopathy is derived from the Greek words homoion (meaning similar) and pathein (meaning disease or suffering).  Therefore, homeopathy is a form of medicine that is based on the premise that “like cures like.”  An example of this would be if you are stung by a bee, Apis Mellifica a remedy made from honeybees is recommended to relieve symptoms.
